Terms of use
Not a law firm
CMS Support UK is not a law firm and does not act as your solicitor, representative or litigation provider. Information, calculators, community discussions, case matching and generated drafts are provided to help users understand and organise their own matters. They are not a substitute for advice from an appropriately qualified professional.
You remain responsible for your case
You are responsible for checking your decision letters, deadlines, facts, calculations, evidence and anything you choose to send to CMS, DWP, HMCTS or another organisation. The service does not submit an appeal, mandatory reconsideration, court document or other communication on your behalf.
Generated documents
Any generated draft is a starting point based on information entered by the user. You must review and edit it before use. Generation of a draft does not mean that a legal argument is correct, that a deadline has been met or that a challenge will succeed.
Calculators
Calculators are illustrative only. They may simplify the statutory rules and do not constitute an official CMS calculation or determination.
Community content
Community posts, replies, reported outcomes and public CMS experiences are user-submitted accounts. They may be incomplete, inaccurate or different from your circumstances. Do not rely on community content as legal authority. CMS Support UK may remove, unpublish or restrict content where reasonably necessary for privacy, safety, abuse prevention, moderation, legal risk or operation of the service.
CMS Evidence Project
The CMS Evidence Project is intended to identify recurring issues through structured, anonymised user experiences. Submissions are personal accounts and are not automatically independently verified. They must not be presented as official findings, tribunal decisions or legal authority.
When submitting an experience, you choose whether it may be used in anonymised research and statistics and separately whether an anonymised version may be published on CMS Support UK. Do not include names, addresses, CMS reference numbers, phone numbers, staff names, children's identifying information or other unnecessary third-party personal information.
CMS Support UK may use consented anonymised material to describe recurring themes, produce aggregate statistics or support future evidence seeking improvements to the child maintenance system. There is no guarantee that any individual submission will be published, included in research, raised with an MP, presented to Parliament or produce any particular policy outcome.
Privacy and other people's information
Do not post personal or confidential information about a child or another person. This includes names, addresses, dates of birth, contact details, CMS reference numbers, court case numbers, school or nursery details, medical information and unredacted documents.
Adult use
The service is intended for adults dealing with child maintenance matters. Children must not create accounts or participate in community features.
Acceptable use
Do not use the service to harass another person, publish unlawful material, impersonate another person or organisation, disclose confidential information, spam the community, attempt unauthorised access, or interfere with the security or operation of the service.
Accounts and deletion
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. You may delete your account using the account controls provided. Account deletion is permanent and removes account-owned stored data as described in the privacy notice, including CMS Evidence Project submissions linked to that account.
Official sources
Where possible, legal information should link to an official source. Laws, guidance and procedures can change. Check the current official source and your own correspondence before acting.
Availability and changes
The service is provided on a developing basis. Features may be changed, suspended or withdrawn, and uninterrupted or error-free availability is not guaranteed. These terms will be updated when the service materially changes. Last reviewed: 29 August 2026.
